Dehydroacetic acid is an organic compound which has several industrial applications. The compound is a pyrone derivative. It presents as an odorless, colorless to white crystalline powder, almost insoluble in water and moderately soluble in most organic solvents. (Wikipedia)Dehydroacetic acid is a mild preservative widely used in both haircare and cosmetics. It prevents products from deteriorating and becoming contaminated, by stopping the growth and reproduction of microorganisms.

Dehydroacetic acid Use
Dehydroacetic acid (DHA) is a broad-spectrum preservative, especially with strong antibacterial ability against mold and yeast. As a fungicide and bactericide, its sodium salt, sodium dehydroacetate, is often in place of dehydroacetic acid because of its greater solubility in water.
Dehydroacetic acid (DHA) is widely as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care products. It helps prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms, thereby extending the shelf life of these products.
Dehydroacetic acid is as an antienzyme in toothpastes.
It is also a food preservative to prevent pickle bloating in squash and strawberries. When as a food additive, dehydroacetic acid is referred to using GB 29223-2012 Food Safety National Standard Food Additives and the International Numbering System for Food Additives.
Dehydroacetic acid (DHA) is also a plasticizer in synthetic resins and a precursor for dimethyl-4-pyridones.
Preparation method
Ethyl acetoacetate by condensation reaction under light or heating.
Sodium Dehydroacetate is by dry media reaction between Dehydroacetic acid and Ethyl acetoacetate.
