Uses
Boron trifluoride etherate is primarily as a catalyst or cocatalyst for selective reaction control in many organic reactions. The applications in chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries include lewis acid catalyst, polymerization reactions, dehydration reactions, oligomerization reactions, carbonylation reactions, ether cleavage and lewis acid in organic synthesis.
It can also be an analytical reagent and epoxy resin curing agent, as well as a catalyst for manufacturing butadiene rubber and polyoxymethylene. BF3 etherate is a raw material for producing boron hydrogen high-energy dyes and extracting the isotope boron 10.
